The Stellenbosch stage is set for reflecting on communicating discovery sciences
Our symposium programme for November 2024 is taking shape with some exciting plenary and parallel sessions covering a range of fields, countries and perspectives.
Plenary sessions include:
- Focus on SciPep (a collaboration between the Kavli Foundation and the US Department of Energy to deepen our understanding of effective public engagement around basic research)
- Scholarly perspectives from John Besley and Bruce Lewenstein
- How to create conducive environments for communicating discovery science with perspectives from Slovenia and South Africa
- Reflections by discovery and basic scientists on their experiences with societal engagement
- Social science research on communicating discovery science featuring researchers from India, Europe, USA and South Africa
- A focus on civic science
- Influencing and integrating policy (perspectives from UK, USA and South Africa)
Fields covered in our parallel sessions include astronomy, geosciences, palaeosciences, neuroscience, marine science, computer science and mathematics. Speakers will highlight creative approaches including podcasting, arts-based engagement, poetry, comics, hip hop and new directions taken in science centres and youth-based programmes.
The full programme will be announced on 6 September 2024.
Please ensure that you are subscribed (footer of page) to be kept up-to-date on announcements.
The conference will be held in person, and all speakers must be present in Stellenbosch. However, remote delegates will be able to tune into a live stream of selected sessions.
The programme will start with registration at 08:00 on Monday, 18 November 2024, with a plenary opening session starting at 09:00, followed by a full day on Tuesday, 19 November 2024, and wrap up with lunch on Wednesday, 20 November 2024.
